This partnership between the City, the School District, and TogetherSF shows what we can do when we all work together to do whatРІР‚в„ўs best for our city and our young people.РІР‚Сњ Our Community Hubs have shown what we can do to safely support our kids, and IРІР‚в„ўm so excited that this summer we will be able to expand not only that model, but offer our students other in-person and virtual opportunities to learn as well. РІР‚СљSummer Together will support their mental health, their academic needs, and just get them to be back together with other children again. РІР‚СљOur children have truly suffered during this pandemic, and we need to do everything we can to make up for lost time,РІР‚Сњ said Mayor Breed. In addition to CrankstartРІР‚в„ўs financial support, other businesses can also provide both monetary and non-monetary support, like food or physical space for learning programs via Give2SF. All programming will be fully-funded through a public-private partnership between the City of San Francisco and philanthropic support. TogetherSF, a community organization, will be providing administrative and operational support for the Summer Together Initiative. In addition to public resources, this initiative is backed by a $25 million philanthropic gift from Crankstart. The program aims to serve all SFUSD students with a focus on supporting the CityРІР‚в„ўs highest need students and families. Summer Together aims to help San Francisco students impacted by learning loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic engage in meaningful, fun, and academic integrated programming and experiences. These learning and wellness issues are significantly magnified in African American, Latino, Pacific Islander, low-income, and English Language Learner children and families. Mental health experts report that children of all ages are experiencing severe social, emotional, and mental health issue such as depression and anxiety.

Vincent Matthews, and community organization TogetherSF announced the launch of the Summer Together Initiative, a newly formed coalition of San Francisco community organizations, nonprofits, businesses, San Francisco Unified School District, and City departments partnering to offer a combination of free in-person and virtual learning experiences for public school students this summer.Р”Р„fter nearly a year of not being in the classroom, San FranciscoРІР‚в„ўs public school students have fallen behind academically and emotionally. These photos were captured during our debrief, where we reflected on student agency within 4 categories identifying who the primary driver is (teachers, students, both), related to our work around Culturally Responsive teaching and moving students from dependent to independent learners. Earlier this semester, based on a connection from the Cohort 1 assistant superintendent & director, we were able to assemble the PITCH schools from within the cohort to explore how PLE was supporting students in developing agency and ownership and to inform next steps at the site.They were able to draw direct connections between our PLE work and the content they lead, identifying next steps in our partnerships to design for alignment.

Within our Professional Growth and Development Working Group, we had the supervisors from 4 different content areas (i.e., ELA, Math, Science, CS) who visited Jose Ortega for learning walks.

These walks were co-facilitated and co-planned with E'leva Hughes Gibson and Ben Klaus.

In this walk, principals engaged in classroom observations at the schools and recorded notes to identify patterns and determine the next level of leadership work and program design for PLE.

Our Guiding Question was: How do teachers promote increased student agency while reaching rigorous grade-level academic standards? What evidence of the Equity and Agency mindset (one of our 4 mindsets for Personalized Learning) do we see? This month administrators from our Personalize Learning Environment (PLE) sites gathered to tour Francis Scott Key and Sheridan Elementary Schools with a lens of agency.
